sophie wellstood​


I grew up in 1960s rural Warwickshire and was raised more or less by kindly dogs.  

My poetry was first published by Indigo Dreams in 2012.  
My fiction was first published in 2013, in Stories for Homes, Vol 1, an anthology in aid of Shelter, ed. Debi Alper and Sally Swingewood.  
​My story 'East, West' is included in Stories for Homes, Vol 2,  November 2017,
'The First Hard Rain', shortlisted for the 2016 Manchester Fiction Prize, is included in the Best British Short Stories 2017, ed. Nicholas Royle, pub. Salt. 
In 2016, Colour Me In won Triskele Books Big 5 Competition and was later shortlisted for the 2017 Caledonian Novel Award. 
​In 2018 my short story Scrimshaw won second place in the 2018 Costa Book Awards / Short Story Prize.
